The Mr. Chair and Ottoman, designed by Malaysian company Plycraft in the mid-20th century, are iconic for their sleek, ergonomic form inspired by Eames’ lounge chair. Crafted from molded plywood and upholstered in leather or fabric, the chair features a reclining mechanism and a swivel base, combining comfort with modernist aesthetics. Though often mistakenly attributed to Charles and Ray Eames, the design reflects Plycraft’s effort to emulate and commercialize the mid-century modern style. The chair became popular in the 1950s–60s for its affordability and luxurious appearance, symbolizing accessible modern design for postwar American homes.
