The Wassily Lounge Chair, designed by Marcel Breuer in 1925, marked a revolutionary moment in modern furniture design. Inspired by the frame of a bicycle, Breuer used bent tubular steel—a novel material at the time—for its lightweight strength. The chair was created at the Bauhaus, where Breuer taught, embodying the school’s minimalist and functional ideals. Originally named the Model B3, it was later associated with artist Wassily Kandinsky, who admired the design. Constructed with leather or canvas slings for seating, it blended industrial materials with elegant geometry, becoming an icon of 20th-century modernism and influencing generations of designers.
