safety in numbers, safely restored.

The fiberglass armshell was and still is one of the most comfortable chairs ever made.

Overtime the fabric gets funky and the foam get crunchy n dusty.

With some TLC, wicked fabric, polish & casters these bad boys are ready for a new trip!

Jason requested something different for his Montana cabin, a little more worn with a club chair look.

We started with really rough 1950’s rosewood panels, after many hours they came out great, all aluminum parts received a ‘Dirty Brass’ finish reminiscent of the Warrior. Last in the puzzle were the cushions upholstered in a gorgeous Townsend hide.

Henry Ford said “you can have it in any color you want, as long as it is black.” I’m sure if Charles & Ray were alive today they would say “you can have it in any color you want, as long as you enjoy it” The world doesn’t have to be upholstered in black leather.

Go ahead punk make my………….eames awesome

More often than not an eames lounge and ottoman arrives at the workshop and the owner believes that all it needs is a little bit of oil and a tune up. After a look around their mind is changed by seeing some of the stunning examples we have at the shop. A little bit more than a rub with tung oil is required to achieve this absolutely perfect standard.

Brazilian rosewood, chestnut leather, polished aluminum, hours & hours.

Hiebert Of Torrance

July 17, 2014

Purchased in 1965 by Al Kaufman & Jay Timmons Hiebert was a 5000 sq.’ cabinetry shop located on Yukon Ave Torrance Southern California.
In 1968 the company built & moved to a new 150,000 sq.’ plant on Telo Ave. A few years later (1981) Hiebert expanded again and moved to a new 475,000 sq.’ facility in Carson. At that time they were the largest wood manufacturer of casegoods and wood systems in the country with 1,000 cabinet workers.

For decades the lounge set below was used by our family until finally coming to rest in a garage.

After many hours of careful restoration the end result would do Al and Jay’s legacy proud i would say.

Its a restorers joy when a client drops off a ‘junker’

Imagine all the parties this old banger has been through…

Image

How many kids have spun around and around while Mum shouts “Someones gonna get hurt”

How many dogs have been shooed down or cats caught a nap.

Who gets it for the Super Bowl or the World Cup final.

Or just Dad asleep with the sunday paper.

Family memories, for generations.
